CHEARS: “Three Sisters Demonstration Gardens”

In 2010, Chesapeake Education, Arts and Research Society (CHEARS) received a grant to create a “Three Sisters” demonstration garden in each of the three sections of Greenbelt.   The goal of the project was to illustrate a sustainable food-growing system in which diverse crops and trees mutually support each other’s well-being.      

Campfire USA: “Teens in Action Program”

In 2009, GCF funded a summer program for elementary and middle school kids in Greenbelt West. This enrichment program was designed to provide safe, supervised recreational activities while re-forcing academic and social skills.
